COURSE GRADING SYSTEM: 361-400 pts = A
321-360 pts = B
271-320 pts = C
231-270 pts = D
0-230 pts = F
If your total point score is within 4 points of the next highest grade (for example, 270 or 357), then the quality and frequency of classroom participation will be taken into consideration in determining if the student should get the next highest grade.
Attendance: The University's First-Class Attendance Policy will be enforced (see UAB Class Schedule, page 10). After the first day of class, tardiness or absence will result in failure to fulfill class assignments and/or penalties as outlined below.
Papers: See Paper Topics and Paper Guidelines handouts.
Quizzes: These may be given at the beginning of class or after break. They will consist of short, objective questions about the reading for that day and count 8 pts apiece. If you miss one for any reason (tardiness or absence), you cannot make it up. However, missed quizzes can be made up in bonus points (see below).
Final: Comprehensive final will consist of two essays to be written in class. Bring blue books.
Bonus points:
1. Up to 12 bonus points can be earned on your first paper (see Topics handout).
2. There will be 15 quizzes given. Since each counts 8 pts, you can earn up to 20 bonus points if you are present for every quiz.
