Easy On-Line Technology You Can Absolutely Use in August
Leaders: Dr. Flowers Braswell,
Kristi Byrd, and Karen Gardiner
Date: Thursday, July 24, 2003
Time: 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Place: Henley Room, Mervyn H. Sterne Library (Second Floor)
Abstract
There is no way around it: teachers have to use technology. We are
pressured on all sides, from administrators, parents, students, and
colleagues. Those who are naturally (and irritatingly!) "tech-savvy"
make us feel guilty if we aren't. The problems we face are very
real: Where is the time to learn about the Internet when we're
simultaneously teaching a class? How can we understand the instructions so
that we can put them to use right away? How can we make this informative,
but also fun? This easy workshop can help you to do it. Topics to cover
include:
- Communicating outside the classroom: Blackboard, WebCT, Connect Web
- Jumpstarting your students' research: Alabama Virtual Library
- Getting the most from "Eureka!" (even if you are not a member)
- Video-conferencing to your classroom from UAB
- Florida's on-line Humanities course
You will recieve:
- Hands-on tutoring
- Easy "Click-click" instruction sheets
- Free-trial e-program (such as Blackboard.com)
(Note: if you will e-mail mfbgroup@uab.edu
ahead of time, we will try to contact your tech person.)
